Fashion Photography at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre

I love working as part of a creative team, and back in March I got together with stylist, Kirstie Smillie, hair and makeup artist, Hanna Wildman and the utterly wonderful Charli Rouse, to shoot our May fashion spread for Kirstie’s feature in Round & About magazine.

It was one of those bitterly cold, raw days, and there had even been a few snow flurries before we arrived at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to start our preparations; just the right weather for a prom dress shoot then!

While Hanna was creating a lovely 70’s look for Charli, Kirstie and I went off to scout suitable locations around the theatre. Most of the photos were done indoors, but just to make things even more challenging, we had secured the use of a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow ll for our cover shot.

We started off in the Circle Bar, which has windows along one side, providing a beautiful, airy backdrop which really complemented the dress colours. And it’s amazing what you can find when you really look – the metal grille being a case in point; Kirstie had spotted this and I was on the verge of discounting it, but am glad I didn’t – two pairs of eyes are definitely an advantage in these situations. Charli was pleased too, as it was pumping out warm air!

I have to say that Charli was an incredible model; apart from looking absolutely stunning, she was confident, had a great personality and poise, and didn’t flinch when she had to go outside in sub-zero temperatures. She even managed to look glamorous whilst wearing her Ugg boots underneath her long dress! A real pleasure to work with.
